No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
An unidentified smuggler shot dead by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in midnight while trying to sneak across the India-Bangladesh border in the dark at Matiar-Banpur area of Nadia district. The incident happened in Krishnaganj police station limits when a BSF patrol spotted a man attempting to cut through the barbed-wire fence and cross over to Bangladesh. Despite repeated warnings and orders to stop, the man kept running, forcing the jawans to open fire in self-defence and to protect the border.
He was hit and died on the spot. Local police reached the spot after being informed, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem to confirm identity and exact cause of death. So far, no identification has been found on the body, and investigators are trying to establish who the man was and what he was trying to smuggle. The area has seen heightened security ever since the recent Delhi blast and unrest in neighbouring Bangladesh.
As per reports, Indian Army will patrol the border area of Nadia along with BSF, a meeting was held recently regarding this issue. The incident has created ripples in nearby villages, with people discussing the strict vigilance along the border. Authorities say such action becomes unavoidable when someone ignores warnings and attempts illegal crossing at night, especially in sensitive zones. The probe is on while the area remains completely on high alert.
